Man Arrested in Elderly Abuse Case

BIG SPRING - One of two people recently indicted for abusing elderly patients in Big Spring has been arrested.

25-year-old Bryson O'Neil Vanderbilt was arrested Tuesday on charges of injury to the elderly. He is currently being held at the Howard County Detention Center.

This case started back in 2007 at Big Spring's Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home. The other person in the case is 52-year-old Connie Mae Johnson. Both Vanderbilt and Johnson are accused of abusing the patients there.

State officials, including State Senator Kel Seliger and Texas Land Board Commissioner Jerry Patterson, are now calling for a review of state veterans homes to make sure patients are being treated properly.

Officials at the state home have told NewsWest9 that since the incidents they have retrained all of their employees.
