Work Starts on I-20 East of Midland

Traffic alert from TXDOT:

MIDLAND COUNTY - Beginning today [April 21], drivers on Interstate 20 will have to slow down for a 2-mile trip on the frontage (service) roads through a construction work zone just east of Midland.

The IH 20 main lane traffic detour began early this morning [April 21], according to Dan Dalager, the TxDOT engineer who is overseeing the construction project.

Dalager said that the detour will be in effect while the twin bridges [overpasses] are built to take the Interstate traffic over East Loop 250 at the new interchange. The work zone will be in place until the overpass is completed.

The slight detour is for the area of Interstate 20 between mile markers 142 and 144 where the overpass will be built.

Eastbound interstate traffic will use the inside lane of the south frontage road. Westbound traffic will use the inside lane of the north frontage road.

The interstate and local traffic on the frontage road detours are separated by concrete traffic barrier rail, which divides the frontage roads through the work zone.

Local traffic will continue to use the outside lanes of the frontage roads --one-way condition continues. Eastbound local traffic uses the south frontage road; westbound local traffic uses the north frontage road.
