GREENWOOD - More than a year's worth of effort is paying off for Greenwood Volunteer firefighters.
The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department will soon have almost $200,000 for new equipment and training.
The announcement came this week from U.S. Senator John Cornyn.
The Greenwood Chief says thanks to the grant from the Department of Homeland Security, they'll be able to buy new hoses, headsets, gas monitors and other supplies.
He also says the funding comes when they really need it.
Currently, the department has outgrown their station, so they are collecting donations to build a new one.
