BIG SPRING - The city designated one day to pick up large items for each district and the pick up day was a success.
According to city officials, the large item pick up for March nearly tripled from last year, officials say they picked up 50 tons of larger items for people.
Although there were some citations issued, most people followed through and took the warnings seriously.
"I think it was very effective. We cleaned up a tremendous amount of trash and debris for our community. The community was very involved; we had more people participate this year than we had in the past. 75 properties that we went to compared to previous years where we went to 35 or 40, so much more success than previous years," Code Enforcement Officer, Chad Averette, said.
The city plans to have more large item pick-ups for the rest of the districts.
They hope that people will clean up the junk off their yards and make Big Spring look beautiful.
