MIDLAND - It's been a month long investigation and finally Midland detectives have issued two warrants in connection with the grandparent scam going on in Midland.

Midland Police tell NewsWest 9, 42-year-old Kevin McElroy from Midland and his alleged partner Ronnie Scott Tingen from North Carolina will be charged with theft when authorities catch up to them.

Police say the two are responsible for 13 different cases of tricking elderly people out of a total of $2,600.

As NewsWest 9 reported, the grandparent scam revolves around targeting the elderly and pretending to be a family member with car trouble, then needing some money.

Investigators are crediting the community for helping them break this case.
