BIG SPRING - Big Spring authorities are trying to figure out exactly how pneumonia broke out at the Federal Correction Institution. The Center for Disease Control and State Health Services have been collecting data this week on those recent pneumonia cases and are looking for a way to prevent future outbreaks.
Prison officials say during the past four months, they've identified about forty cases of pneumonia from an inmate population of over 1,700.
Those patients have been isolated and have since recovered or are in the process of recovering.
Prison officials are now trying to educate the inmates on precautions they need to take to prevent germs from spreading.
We're told the prison has stopped transferring inmates temporarily to make sure that it doesn't continue to spread.
So far, operation and visitation times have not been affected.
We will continue to follow all the developments.
