ODESSA - Safety and silence.

That's what the City of Odessa is hoping for when new safety measures going into effect this Thursday on the south side of town along the railroad tracks.

City workers have put in new supplemental safety measures at the railroad crossings along Second Street.

In addition to existing flashing lights, the city has installed raised medians and flexible delineators to qualify the crossings as quiet zones.

Trains passing through these intersections will no longer be required to sound their horns.

However, drivers are always urged to use caution when traveling across any railroad crossing.
