ODESSA - The Odessa Police Department can now hit the roads in full force.
After a challenging few years with the economy, the department is almost fully staffed.
At one point last year, the Odessa Police Department had 30 openings, but that's not the case anymore.
Odessa Police Chief Tim Burton says due to the fact that a lot of other industries are struggling in Odessa, the police department is actually attracting more recruits.
On top of that, many people are looking for new careers and that's all benefiting the Odessa Police Department.
Chief Burton says they've filled all but one of it's sworn positions.
Burton attributes their hardships in the past to a number of reasons, including their long application process.
It used to take six months, and by the time the process was complete, some of those recruits had found other jobs, but now the application process has been cut down to three months.
Some officers are still in training, but police officials say the future is looking bright.
