Amarillo, TX - A Dumas man died in an accident near the Canadian River Thursday morning. D.P.S. troopers say the car attempted to pass a tractor-trailer on U.S. 287 about 10 miles north of Amarillo when the driver lost control because of icy weather. The car then slid sideways and was hit broadside by the semi truck. The passenger, 30 year old Claro Montes, died at the scene.
The driver, 30 year old Lorena Nevarez also of Dumas, was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
