Two Arrested in Connection with Murder in Hobbs

HOBBS - Two people have been arrested in connection to a murder in Hobbs. Police arrested 28-year-old Michael Pitman and 25-year-old Anastacia Calvillo after what police described as a high risk traffic stop.

Police officers found 38-year-old Michael Edison of Hobbs in the 800 block of S. Eighth with a gunshot wound to the chest Wednesday night. He died at Lea Regional Hospital.

Pitman and Calvillo were arrested after speeding away from the area. Police say a handgun had been thrown from the vehicle and was recovered.

Pitman has been charged with First Degree Murder, Tampering with Evidence and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Calvillo was charged with Accessory to First Degree Murder and Trafficking Cocaine. She had 3.5 grams of cocaine in her possession.

A juvenile who was also in the vehicle was released.
