Sandhills Rodeo Turns Out Well Despite Economy

ODESSA - With just 3 days left in the Sandhills Rodeo, many say this year is turning out to be a better one than they expected.

"It's doing really well. We were at first concerned with the economy and the weather we've been having, but this week is really good and more calls on a daily basis for tickets," Sandhills Rodeo Board Member, Keith Summer, said.

Even business owners around the area also say they've had an increase in sales since the rodeo came into town last week.

Rodeo officials say there isn't much of a difference when it comes to last year's rodeo including how many contestants signed up this year.

"We have just under a thousand contestants this year and a lot of big names, but we're close to being the same average as last year," Summer said.

Some say despite the sour economy, they're confident the Sandhills Rodeo will have a strong finish these last few days.

"Rodeo has always been entertainment for people around here, and all over the world. People will always come see their favorite contestant," Summer said.
