PRESIDIO COUNTY - Presidio County officials, trying desperately to get the doors of the County jail, open again.
Judge Jerry Agan tells NewsWest Nine, most of the needed repairs have been completed and the facility needs to be inspected.
On Monday, County Commissioners discussed, asking for an increase to the $41.00 per-diem they get from the U.S. Marshals for housing prisoners.
At that rate, with a full jail, the county operated at a $300,000 per year loss.
If the new 69 dollar per-diem is accepted, and with the lease of new video surveillance equipment, the jail could be up and running by the end of the month.
