WEST ODESSA - It may not have seemed like a major crash at the time but NewsWest 9 has learned that one man has died from his injuries after a head-on collision on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the accident happened on West University, just east of Skylark Avenue.

Officials went on to say that 71-year-old Richard Elizondo swerved into incoming traffic and hit another vehicle as he was heading east toward Odessa.

The victims in the other vehicle were transported to Medical Center Hospital.

18-year-old Garrett Surber was released from the hospital on Saturday, but his family members, 41-year-old Dana Surber and 20-year-old Ashley Surber, are still in the hospital and are listed in stable condition.

Authorities still don't know what Elizondo to swerve, but they went on to say that everyone in both vehicles were wearing their seatbelts.
