MIDLAND - Midland Police have reopened Wadley near Loop 250 after a suspicious package was reported to police.

Some customers in the area said they saw some suspicious activity near a light pole in the Academy Parking lot.

Officials immediately shut down the intersection at Wadley and Loop 250 around 1:45, as well as evacuating the Academy and Mardel parking lots and safely securing those customers inside the stores.

Officials believed that the item near the light pole was a pipe bomb, but NewsWest 9 has learned that there was not a threat at all and it was part of a GeoCaching game.

As you will recall, Geocaching is a GPS game where people will go in search of containers which could be filled with just about anything.

The Midland bomb squad was also called out to the scene to investigate the package.

This is not the first time that an incident of this nature has happened, you may remember back in July of 2008 at the UTPB CEED Building, where a geocache game piece was thought to be a bomb as well.
