ANDREWS - A fight is on in Andrews over construction of a low level radioactive waste disposal site.

Andrews County Commissioners recently hired a law firm to file a bond validation lawsuit in state district court.

Basically, they're trying to get a judge to rule in favor of Waste Control Specialists.

In turn, that would allow the Texas Attorney General to free up 75 million dollars in bond money needed for construction which is now six months behind.

Back in May, the group "No Bonds for Billionaires" filed a lawsuit against the Andrews County Judge, claiming more than a hundred voters illegally cast their ballots in the bond election.

That lawsuit is still on appeal in El Paso.

Since then, construction on the project has been halted.
