WEST ODESSA - A family is thankful after they were able to rescue a precious member of their family from a burning home.

Stella Jacobs said her grandfather were the only people home when smoke started filling their West Odessa home on Sunday night.

Firefighters say family members lived next door, so they were able to get to their grandfather in time.

Crews contained most of the damage to the ceiling, but firefighters say there's quite a bit of smoke and electrical damage, and the family will have to find another place to stay until it's fixed.

Firefighters are still working to determine the cause of the fire and say things could've been much worse if they hadn't arrived when they did.

"He's very lucky. All of the fire in the ceiling of the house, the fire was on the verge of breaking out. If it broke out, there wouldn't be anything left," West Odessa Fire Chief Jimmy Ellis, said.

Jacobs says her mother lives in the home with her grandfather.

No one was injured.
