MONAHANS - An emotional night in Monahans where a local man was given a key to the city as he wages a war on cancer, but he was so sick, his wife had to attend the community-wide celebration that was thrown to honor her husband.
Tears of thanks came from Wayne Johnson's wife.
She stood in for him on Wednesday night as dozens of Monahans residents were on hand to say thank you to a man who they say has given his all to their town for decades.
Johnson is fighting a cancer that's taken over his entire body.
But before he was bed-ridden, he served as a nurse at the Ward Memorial Hospital.
He spent years treating his fellow citizens coaxing them back to health.
Wayne worked as a nurse for more than 30 years all across the area.
