United Way is asking for your help.

The organization has been hit hard by a tough economy leaving them struggling for funds.

24 days, that's how much time is left for the United Way to reach their goal for the year.

"We are around 120,000 dollars short this year" Eva Nieto, with the Howard County United Way, said.

They were hoping to raise $300,000, but so far they only have $180,000.

Despite the challenge, the United Way is pushing forward.

"So we are trying to do some extra calling right now, everybody that we know, who maybe hasn't given," Nieto said.

There is a plus to donating, you can claim it as a tax write-off.

"If you want to make a contribution to United Way instead of Uncle Sam,  I promise we will use it a lot more wisely," Nieto said.

And if you're wondering where all the money goes, here's the answer.

"Every single dime that is used in United Way stays in Howard County," Nieto said.

United Way officials say without that money some Howard County organizations will feel the pinch.

"Their will be some that are disappointed, that just kills our soul," Nieto added.

The money is spread out to 14 different organizations in Howard County.

If you would like to make a donation you can call the United Way at 432-267-5201, or you can drop by their office in Big Spring.
