MARTIN COUNTY - Martin County deputies are on the lookout for a couple of copper thieves who decided not to hang on to the loot.
Deputies say their target was TESSCO Oil Field services, just north of Stanton.
Earlier this month the company reported about $8,000 worth of copper-wire was stolen.
Days later, deputies say most of the copper wire was found abandoned on some ranchland.
Apparently, the thieves tried to burn off the insulation so they could sell the copper, but decided it was too much work.
Deputies say they're still looking for the crooks.
