FORT STOCKTON - Deciding what to wear to school next year just got a whole lot easier. Students will just have to decide which polo shirt to wear with khaki pants, since that'll be the new dress code for students of every grade in Fort Stockton schools.
"The new student attire is affordable and will give students an even ballpark, they'll be shining on personality, not by what they wear," Apache Elementary Principal, Estela Casas, said.
School officials say the new standard attire won't just help parents and their budget, but students blending in with their classmates.
"There's a self-esteem issue. The parents feel pressure because they feel labeled clothes is what they have to buy since all the kids are wearing it," Casas said.
Some parents agree, having a standard attire will benefit both parents and students all around.
"It will be a lot easier. Here in Fort Stockton, we won't have to go out of town to shop," Adriana Armendariz said.
"Wardrobe is expensive, she won't have to feel like she has to fit in. If everyone wears the same thing all the prejudice will go away," Jennifer Turman said.
