Woman Killed South of Hobbs in Accident

HOBBS, N.M. - A woman is dead after a crash south of Hobbs. It happened Tuesday around 2:20 p.m. on State Highway 18.

New Mexico State Police say a semi-tractor trailer and a Dodge passenger vehicle were both traveling north when the semi started to change lanes. The Dodge then tried to pass the semi at a high rate of speed, but slammed into the rear of the semi.

The right front passenger of the truck, Jennifer Luna of Hobbs, died at the scene. Three children in the truck were also taken to the hospital in Hobbs. Two were released and one was taken to Lubbock for further treatment.

The driver of the Dodge, Valerie Luna, was also taken to the hospital in Hobbs for treatment. The driver of the semi was not injured.
