Dwayne Billings Trial to Stay in Odessa

ODESSA - The case against Dwayne Billings will be heard in Odessa, as long as an impartial jury can be seated.

Judge John Smith decided Monday morning that the trial would not be moved to another county, at least not yet.

Dwayne Billings is accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl back in January of 2007. The girl disappeared and set off a huge search with hundreds of volunteers. She was later found a home on West 18th in Odessa where Billings was living.

Billings' attorney had asked that the trial be moved out of Odessa due to media coverage of the incident.

Judge Smith ruled that the jury selection process would begin in Ector County and the court would see if enough jurors could be seated.
