GAINES COUNTY - Massive damage and serious decay, that's the word from the State Jail Commission after taking a look at the Gaines County Jail.
During the last election, voters said no to building a new jail.
Now, the state says it's in need of serious help.
The County Judge tells NewsWest 9, inspectors paid a visit to the facility.
The report spells out significant decay in the ceiling, walls, and the water and sewer pipes.
The inspector was actually the same as last year's, and he told officials - the damage in the past year has been surprising.
Now the county is waiting on word from the Jail Standards Commission.
Judge Keyes says he plans to put a new jail back on the ballot next November.
