FORT HOOD - Startling new details have been released about the alleged gunman behind last week's deadly shooting at Fort Hood.

Authorities have revealed that Army Major Nidal Hassan has ties to a mosque in Virginia, the same mosque attended by the 9-11 hijackers.

The disgraced serviceman's family says Hassan held his mother's funeral at the same Virginia Mosque that two September 11th hijackers attended in 2001.

We're also learning that was at a time when a Radical Imam preached at the mosque.

Officials say whether the Fort Hood shooter associated with those hijackers is something the FBI will probably look into in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Army Chief of Staff General George Casey is urging Americans not to get caught up in speculation about Hasan's Muslim faith.

He says focusing on the Islamic roots of the suspected shooter could heighten the backlash against all Muslims in the military.
