MIDLAND - The West Texas community is lifting up a local business owner who lost everything in a fire.
Friends and family were selling gordita plates and baked goods on Saturday to raise money to help the owner of E&R Automotive rebuild his business.
In October, a fire ripped through his auto shop burning nearly everything inside.
But that's not the worst of it.
The owner has to pay out-of-pocket for nearly 45,000 dollars worth of damages, because he dropped his insurance when the economy slumped.
"I was crying tears trying to figure it out and praying to god how am I going to recover from this. And to me it's like God answered our prayer. Because the community here in Midland Texas, and not only Midland but Odessa, Texas, people over there that I have to give credit to because they've donated a lot of money and helped me out. So it’s a wonderful feeling when you've got people helping you out,” Erby Zarate, Owner of E&R Automotive, said.
Not including Saturday’s sale, Zarate said he's received about $5,000 dollars in donations since the October blaze.
