ECISD Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Red Ribbon Week means a flurry of activities
Nearly 25 years after his death, former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Kiki Camarena is still being celebrated during Red Ribbon Week. October 26-30 is Red Ribbon Week for ECISD with celebrations and contests taking place across the District. It begins with the traditional kickoff ceremony in front of John Ben Rabbit in the parking lot of the Administration Building at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning. The week will include a poster contest sponsored by the Student Assistance Services Department. Individual schools will also have drug-free themes each day and members of the Jackalopes and the Roughnecks will visit secondary campuses throughout the week. Read on for more story ideas for the coming week:
Monday, October 26 - Dowling elementary school will host an interactive exhibit to kickoff Red Ribbon Week. The exhibit comes from Midland Stop DWI and includes science experiments that help students learn about alcohol and the human body. This powerful display also includes a vehicle involved in a drunk-driving accident. Dowling is located at 1510 E 17th Street.
Tuesday, October 27 - Family Leadership Institute kickoff at the Advanced Technical Center. Parental involvement is the key to student success. For the fourth year in a row ECISD is sponsoring the Family Leadership Institute, a ten-module program that teaches parents the skills they need to help their students succeed in school and in life. It is a very powerful set of lessons. The ATC is located at 300 E. 29th Street.
Thursday, October 29 - Chemical Madness at Odessa High School. Just in time for Halloween the OHS science department is brewing up some really fun lessons. Throughout the day science teachers (in costume, of course) will conduct experiments with a Halloween theme-think smoking cauldrons and exploding spells! The goal is to show students that science and fun go together. You can catch the action between 8:40 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. and again from 1:10-3:55 p.m. For more details contact Tony Gonzales or Brittany Easley at OHS 337-6655. OHS is located at 1301 N. Dotsy.
Friday, October 30 - Moo Week winners! Have you ever seen a superhero crafted out of an empty milk carton? If not, you can by visiting the ECISD Food Services building at 9:30 a.m. October 23-30 is Moo Week, an event designed to encourage healthy eating by emphasizing the nutritional value of milk and other dairy products.
