ODESSA - Permian High School football player Julio Rangel badly injured his spine during practice in August, and now the community has come forward to help his family pay for growing medical expenses.

"Julio Rangel's medical expenses are adding up. She's a single mom, and my heart just goes out to her. I think it's important to have the community make this happen," Event Coordinator, Yvonne Rosas said.

"It's pretty awesome to see the community come together. He's in desperate need, I just want to say thank you," Julio's Friend, Carson Rosas said.

Seeing the community come together at a time of need was more than what Rangel's mother expected.

"I'm grateful. It's not so much the money, but the support, the prayers, and the faith. I'm really grateful," Julio's Mother, Benita Benavides said.

"It doesn't surprise me. Odessa has always been the giving community," Yvonne Rosas, said.

The benefit breakfast turned out was an early morning breakfast, where every bite made a difference.
