Police Investigating Fatal Accident in Midland, Victims Names Released

MIDLAND - A terrible accident in Midland has left one Midland teen dead and another in the hospital.

The accident happened around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon near the Scharbauer Draw, along Scharbauer Street.

Police tell NewsWest 9, a 2004 Dodge truck driven by 18-year-old Ariel Jimenez, lost control, swerved, hit a curb, then rolled, and slid down the drainage embankment landing on the roof of the truck.

Motorists who drove up on the accident helped tilt the vehicle on its side before emergency crews arrived on the scene.  Police also said the motorists lifted the head of the driver out of the water inside the Draw.

However, the passenger of the vehicle, 18-year-old Magaly Ibanez from Midland, was extracted from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jimenez was transported to the hospital with a head injury.

Investigators believe reckless driving played a factor in the accident.

Police have ordered an autopsy for Jimenez.

No charges have been filed as Police are still investigating.
