Alpine Food Pantry Kicks Off New Campaign

From the Alpine Food Pantry:

ALPINE - The Food Pantry of Alpine Board of Directors has announced "The Power of Tens" Campaign. The Board encourages individuals, civic groups, churches, clubs, or businesses to get a group of ten individuals to each pledge $10 per month for a year. The Food Pantry's goal for this fundraising drive is ten groups of ten people each pledging $10 per month or a total of $12,000 for a year.

Fr. John Medvick, Food Pantry Board President, stated "The Power of groups are obviously not limited to giving a total of $100 per month. But we want everyone to know that through the Power of Tens we will have a foundation of support for the Pantry for years to come that will help us to develop a top notch food pantry."

Anyone interested in "The Power of Tens" Campaign should contact Medvick at Holy Cross Anglican Church 432-837-7170, email the Food Pantry at or check out the Food Pantry's website at

Monetary donations in any amount may be sent to The Food Pantry of Alpine, P.O. Box 1366, Alpine, TX 79831. The Food Pantry of Alpine is set up to do automatic banking withdrawals also. As a state-designated 501 (3) c organization, the Food Pantry of Alpine may accept tax-deductible donations.

Statistics show that $20 helps five households, $50 helps 13 families, and $75 helps to supply over 20 area families with monthly food and other necessary commodities. The goal of the Food Pantry is to provide on a monthly basis 25 pounds or more of food and other commodities for a family of one to four people and nearly 50 pounds to those with more than five individuals in the household.

In addition to "The Power of Tens" Campaign, the Food Pantry of Alpine is receiving help from two other community sources. Both the Alpine High School Sophomore class and Comet Cleaners are currently having a canned food drive and the Sul Ross State University Freshmen Leadership Program is having a canned food/donation drive for the Pantry this month.

The next scheduled distribution will be on Saturday, November 7 from 9-11 am in the Education Building at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 406 S. 6th Street in Alpine. Distribution set up will be on Friday, November 6 from 9-11 am.
