Howard County Worker Injured in Gas Line Accident

BIG SPRING - A Howard County worker is in a Lubbock hospital after being burned Tuesday morning.

The worker struck an eight inch gas line around 10:30 a.m. while he was operating a maintainer in bar ditch on County Road 25 north of Big Spring. The worker has now been identified as Gary Harris.

The gas line ruptured and then caught on fire. Harris was then burned. An oil field worker drove by and saw him and called authorities.

Harris is at the Lubbock burn center for treatment. Howard County officials say he received up to third degree burns to over 30 percent of his body.
