DALHART, Texas (AP) - Police say a Dalhart man suspected of fatally shooting his wife in front of their two grandchildren has been found dead in a likely suicide.

Dalhart Police Chief Tom Sanford told The Associated Press that 78-year-old Jose Abel Cancino, who was named in a murder warrant, was found early Saturday. He said a person going to work found the body in a vacant lot. Sanford said authorities determined it was
"more than likely" a suicide from one gunshot wound.

Sanford had said previously that 63-year-old Elva Perez Cancino was fatally shot Wednesday night outside the couple's home after asking her spouse to move out.

Dalhart is a Texas Panhandle town of about 7,300 residents, near the Oklahoma and New Mexico borders.
