ODESSA - A jury has found an Odessa man guilty of beating a woman to death.

Brian Swearengin was found guilty of capital murder just before noon on Thursday. Swearengin beat Lourdes Medrano to death on Odessa's Southside back in December of 2006.

"It's hard, but we're going to put this behind us and try to move forward," Medrano's Sister said.

"This is one of the most brutal crimes I've ever seen. There were over 58 wounds and the weapon was a hammer," District Attorney Bobby Bland, said.

Swearengin was automatically sentenced to life without parole. It only took an Ector County jury 30 minutes to come up with the verdict.
