ODESSA--School officials are calling it an unfortunate accident after a 13-year-old boy was run over by a bus.
Officials tell NewsWest 9, the accident happened during a routine stop at Del Rio and Laredo, when a group of students, most from Nimitz Junior High, got off the bus.
Based on witness statements, a couple of them started horsing around, when the 13-year old boy, either slipped or tripped and fell off the curb. The bus then ran over his shoulder. The teen was taken to a lubbock hospital.
Mike Adkins, Director of Communications for ECISD says, based on police reports and the information they've been able to gather so far, the bus driver did nothing wrong, "The police, even Monday at the scene, were very quick to say, they don't forsee any charges being pressed against the bus driver because he did follow practice and he did take safety precautions. It's really just an unfortunate thing that the kids just let their guard down for a few seconds."
The bus driver, who's name is not being released, will not be allowed to drive a bus, but will continue to be paid, during the course of the investigation.
According to hospital officials in Lubbock, they will not release details on the teen's condition to law enforcement, unless he takes a turn for the worst.
