ODESSA - The Odessa firefighter arrested for trying to break into the home of the CrimeStoppers director has resigned.

City officials tell NewsWest 9, Richard Kilgore handed in his resignation on Wednesday morning and Kilgore was not asked to resign.

Odessa Police and the Fire Department had already begun an internal investigation of Kilgore, but on his very first day back on the job, he turned in his resignation.

Last Sunday, CrimeStoppers Director Susan Rogers says she awoke to the sound of someone trying to beat down her door.

Her husband tackled Kilgore until police arrived and arrested him.

Still no motive for the attempted break-in.
