Alon Sues Over Refinery Appraisal

BIG SPRING - There's another legal fight between Howard County and the Alon Refinery.

Alon has filed another lawsuit against the Appraisal District claiming their values are wrong.      Appraisers originally marked the refinery at more than 200 million.

After a disagreement the district brought it down to 169 million, but Alon officials decided to pursue legal action saying they'll only pay taxes on about half that.

Howard County Judge Mark Barr tells us this isn't just a courtroom brawl - taxpayers will have to make up the difference.

Barr says it will be about a year before they could see the change. This is the second time Alon's taken to Howard County Appraisal District to court over the property value.
