MIDLAND - The uneasy economy has the City of Midland putting their foot down on new hires.

The Midland City Council voted to implement a hiring freeze on all departments including the Police and Fire Departments.

The Tall City's sales tax revenue remains strong, despite being on a downward trend for the last six months.

City officials say the freeze shouldn't affect public safety.

The Police Department has been able to hire additional officers.
