ODESSA - Fewer inmates remain behind bars at the Ector County Youth Detention Center.
You might remember the story from back in the Spring when they were packed with young offenders.
Over the summer, the numbers dropped by almost half.
Officials tell NewsWest Nine, they sent quite a few kids to the Texas Youth Commission.
They also attribute the decrease to several new counseling programs targeting misdemeanor offenders.
Not only have the numbers gone down, but the severity of the crimes has plummeted.
After receiving a state grant this year, they began offering more rehabilitation courses helping kids to avoid a second trip behind bars.
