ODESSA - Students at Barbara Jordan Elementary were kept inside Thursday afternoon after hearing a loud noise and smelling an odor.

The school went into its "shelter in place" mode around 1:30 p.m. which means exterior doors were locked and no one was allowed in or out of the building.

The Odessa Fire Department responded and used air quality monitors around the school and neighborhood. The readings from the monitors were normal. The "shelter in place" ended around 2:10 and kids were dismissed on schedule.
