Severe Weather Strikes Across the Permian Basin

MIDLAND COUNTY - Highway 80 near FM 1788 has been re-opened after severe weather struck the Permian Basin on Tuesday afternoon.

The intersection was closed due to high water and vehicles were stranded at the intersection near FM 1788.

The strong storms moved through the area around 5:00 dropping large amounts of rain.

Chief Meteorologist Tom Tefertiller reported that the Midland International Airport received 1.38 inches of rain in about 45 minutes.

Mother Nature also brought some severe winds to the Basin.  The National Weather Service reported a wind gust at 61 miles per hour at the Airport.
