MIDLAND - Even with Doppler radar and satellite technology, the National Weather Service relies on the human eye to paint a complete picture of what's going on in the sky and on the ground.

On Saturday, the National Weather Service in Midland offered up awards to their SkyWarn spotters, a group of amateur and trained weather spotters who feed the National Weather Service critical information during a storm.

Vesper says the folks inside the Weather Service are able to use modern technology and cross check whatever the spotters are seeing on the ground.
