PERMIAN BASIN - Back to school, back off the accelerator.
That's the word from Allstate Insurance this week after they released the average fines for speeding in a school zone.
In Odessa, the average cost of a speeding ticket, according to Allstate is $200.00 dollars for drivers topping the speed limit by 10 miles an hour.
The average in Midland is $140.00 dollars, and statewide, the average fine is $209.00 dollars.
School officials and police in the basin want motorists to respect the school zones starting Monday morning.
They say be on the lookout for the flashing lights and for kids walking near any campus before, during, and after school.
