MIDLAND - It's a rather surprising move, more and more Hispanic Catholics are converting to Judaism, and they're looking to make a home in the Permian Basin.

The Association of Crypto Jews is aimed at Hispanic Catholics, who want to learn more about or convert back to the Jewish faith.

The group was founded by Rabbi Yosef Garcia, who grew up catholic, but learned his family, like hundreds of others have been hiding in the catholic church, since the Spanish inquisition.

"There's been this resurgency over the past 20 years, that these individuals, for no other best explanation, are driven by God to come back to Judaism," Rabbi Yosef Garcia, said.

Classes are offered in English and Spanish and the services are in the traditional language, Hebrew.

The group's goal is to build a permanent synagogue in the Midland-Odessa area.
