MIDLAND - It was an emotional day for both the Adams and Saldana family as the jury reached its verdict on Monday afternoon.

22-year-old Alex Saldana was sentenced to prison for 60 years for Stephen Adams murder and another 40 years for charges of aggravated assault. Those sentences will run concurrently, so he will spend 60 years behind bars.
Stephen Adams was killed last November while waiting for his daughter in a Whataburger parking lot in Midland. NewsWest 9 spoke to both Saldana's and Admas' families after the sentence was announced.

"We just want to thank the jury, because justice was served. This sets presidence for anyone out there who might think about destroying somebody's family," Stephen's Wife, Missy Adams, said.

Saldana's girlfriend felt that he wasn't given a fair trial. "I'm sorry for their loss, but at least they had memories with their father, my children won't," Veronica Armendariz, said.

Adams family had the chance to address Saldana and told him he they hoped he would one day feel remorse for what he did that November night.

One of Adams' daughter said she calls her father's voice mail every night just to hear her father's voice.

The Saldana family could not stay while the letter was read, they left the courtroom early in tears.
