Association Backs Accused Winkler County Nurses

KERMIT - A couple of former Winkler County nurses accused of misusing official documents      are getting some big support - the backing of the state and national nurses associations.

Officials with the American Nurses Association say the Winkler County Attorney is wrong for prosecuting Anne Mitchell and Vicki Galle.

The two former nurses are accused of sending private patient files to the state medical board, supposedly in an attempt to harm a doctor.

It's a felony charge, but the association claims the two were filing a complaint against the doctor in order to make sure their patients were safe.

The Texas Nurses Association has set up a legal defense fund to help the two. If convicted, the nurses could face up to ten years and a $10,000 fine.
