Grant Money to Help Re-open Presidio County Jail

MARFA - The troubled Presidio County Jail could be back up and running by September.

Presidio County has just received a $100,000 emergency grant from the governor's office. The money will allow the county to reopen the jail and keep it running until the county starts getting money for housing inmates for other agencies.

A jail committee is now working on a plan to best use that grant money.

Commissioners closed the jail back in June after Emerald Correctional Management terminated its contract. That left the county in a financial bind with no way to keep the facility open.
