MIDLAND - A standoff that lasted five hours in a north Midland neighborhood has ended peacefully.

The standoff began around 10:45 a.m. Monday morning after a man barricaded himself inside his home on Driftwood inside the Greentree Country Club by locking all the doors and closing all the windows.

His wife, who feared he may commit suicide, called Midland Police.

Once officials arrived on the scene, they tried to contact the suspect on the telephone with no answer, and that's when the police controlled robot was called in to assist in the investigation.

The robot discovered that the suspect was taking a nap.  When police entered the house, they did find several weapons in the house, but the man never used them against the officers.

A police spokesperson tells NewsWest 9, the standoff ended around 4:00 p.m. when the man was taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
