Sales Tax Revenues Down in Midland, Odessa

WEST TEXAS - The sputtering economy is impacting the bottom line for both Midland and Odessa.

The July sales tax for the City of Odessa shows a decrease of a little more than 18 percent compared to last July. The trend was almost exactly the same in Midland.

The decline shows that residents in both cities are not shopping as much as they have been.

So far, sales tax revenues for the year are still higher compared to 2008 for both cities.

Both Midland and Odessa had been enjoying large gains in sales tax revenues the last few years.
