Big Spring Creates Strong Connection with Mexican Sister City

BIG SPRING - Big Spring has been playing host this week to dignitaries from their newest sister city in Mexico.

Friday, officials from San Miguel Del Alto toured the city with local leaders. They also showed off a gift from the people of San Miguel Del Alto to the people of Big Spring.

The gift is a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It was given to Big Spring earlier this year. San Miguel Del Alto has a church named after Our Lady of Guadalupe so they hope the statue will serve as a connection between the two towns. The Mayor of the Mexican city told NewsWest9 that the gift is from the heart.

Big Spring officials signed an official agreement with San Miguel Del Alto at Pops in the Park Friday night to solidify the sister city relationship. Big Spring also renamed a street after the San Miguel Del Alto back in June.

San Miguel Del Alto is a small city in the central part of the country near Mexico City.
