City of Midland Fires Employee Convicted of Providing Drugs to Student

MIDLAND - The City of Midland has fired an employee who was found guilty this week in federal court of providing drugs to a student.

35-year-old Sammy Ray Collins was arrested back in February and charged with Distribution of a Controlled Substance to a Minor and Using a Minor to Distribute a Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of a school in February 23, 2009.

Police say Collins provided prescription pills to a 15-year-old freshman who was then selling the drugs at school.

Collins had worked as a Service Center Tech for the city. He will be sentenced in September.
