Man Arrested for Murder of Big Spring Teen

BIG SPRING - Authorities have made an arrest in connection to the shooting death of a Big Spring teen.

The Big Spring Police Department and the Howard County Sheriff's Department arrested 18-year-old Christopher Olivarez of Big Spring in Lamesa.

He was arrested Friday at the Villa Apartments without incident and charged with the murder of 16-year-old Justin Hernandez.

Hernandez was shot in the head in the early morning hours of May 30th at a graduation party on Cardinal Street in Big Spring. He was taken to a Lubbock hospital where he died.

Olivarez is being held on a $750,000 bond and is now in the Howard County Jail. A press release from the Big Spring Police Department did not say why they think Olivarez shot Hernandez.
